Great Plains new Centurion 4m drill will line up alongside the Saxon at Tillage-Live 2015. The new Centurion 3m and 4m drills offer a more conventional cultivator drill solution with cultivation provided by notched angled discs across the full width of the machine.

All the latest news about the event is available on the website www.tillage-live.uk.com including listings of all the working demonstrations and details of pre-booking (£7.50/car, compared to £10 on the day). For group rates contact FarmSmart Events.

One of the key benefits of the Saxon and Centurion machines is that the cultivation elements (discs) are easily interchangeable. Thus if you ordered a Saxon drill fitted with the Turbo Coulter discs, you can also order, as an option, the notched angled cultivating discs as used on the Centurion. You can then swop the Turbo Coulter discs for the notched, angled cultivating discs.

The same principle applies if you buy the Centurion complete with notched, angled discs and order the Turbo-Coulter discs as an option. This is of particular advantage to those farmers who require a drill to perform different tasks on different parts of the farm at different times of year – now, in many cases, they need only buy one drill whereas previously they may have had to consider buying two. It is also of benefit to contractors, because they effectively get two drills in one.

The Centurion 400, boasts a new-look 3000-litre hopper design (a 4000-litre hopper is available as an option), and features two rows of 460mm diameter cultivation discs with two choices of serration, 25mm or 50mm, which are mounted in pairs on maintenance-free hubs. Disc-to-disc spacing is 250mm and 650mm between the front and rear gang.

New heavy-duty cultivation disc arms with more robust, cultivation unit toolbar mounts provide increased clearance for stones and trash.

The 4-metre drill sows 24 rows (at 167mm spacing) and 32 rows (at 125mm spacing), whilst the 3-metre version sows 18 and 24 rows respectively. Each coulter incorporates a seed flap guiding seed close to the opener bottom to eliminate seed bounce and an easy-to-use T-handle adjuster with 18 depth settings.

Hydraulically adjustable down pressure in the range of 40kg to 160kg ensures the coulters operate at consistent depth in all soil types and that the drill performs well in both plough-based and reduced tillage systems. New opener rail geometry maximises the transfer of weight to the coulter and press wheel by keeping the coulter arm parallel to the ground, ensuring accuracy of seeding depth and control over down pressure especially in difficult conditions.

The seed distribution system is variable rate ready. It comprises injection-moulded seed distribution heads with optional tramline shut-offs and seed blockage monitors to accurately deliver seed to each coulter with the ability to shut off each row individually for wider row spacing if required.
